Made in sterling silver and copper, this pendant is handcrafted to resemble a spotted lanternfly- also known as lycorma delicatula.
The outer wings are hand cut Montana agates with beautiful black spots that mimic the wings of this insect. The body and lower wing sections were created using chasing and repoussé techniques, and the entire piece is otherwise hand sawn, formed, and soldered. Each element is entirely built from scratch.
This piece has been given a patina that darkens the sterling silver to a rich, black tone, but the copper accents on the inner wings are left bright. It has been sealed with renaissance wax to preserve this finish.
Included is an 18” black Greek leather cord with oxidized sterling silver end caps and a lobster clasp.
Pendant Size: 63 × 42 mm or ~2.5 × 1.5”
Spotted lanternflies are an invasive species here in the United States that poses a threat to our local crops. Although these little creatures are beautiful, the best course of action to slow their spread is to eliminate egg clusters and invasive host plants like tree of heaven.

About Leland Blue:
This type of slag glass is a byproduct of the iron smelting process in Leland during the late 1800's. Many different shades of blue are represented in this type of glass along with air bubbles and other unique impurities that give it character. This piece has been naturally tumbled by Lake Michigan and washed ashore to be cut, polished, and made into this pendant.
About Fossil Coral:
There are many different types of fossilized coral in the great lakes, but these corals are considered favosites and sometimes referred to as "Charlevoix Stone". While these are common finds all along the shores of Lake Michigan, both of these were actually found along the beach in Charlevoix!
